Discover Nice Differently… through its markets

Promenade Des Anglais depuis Le West End

To fully immerse yourself in the culture of Nice, there’s nothing better than strolling through the city’s various markets. Not only can you stock up on fresh, seasonal produce, but it’s also a wonderful way to experience the city from a new perspective, soaking up its unique dolce vita atmosphere. Here’s an overview of the three main markets in Nice, all easily accessible by foot or public transportation from the West End Hotel.

Cours Saleya Markets
A must-see, the Cours Saleya market is one of the most vibrant in Old Nice. Its fruit and vegetable market runs from Tuesday to Sunday, 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering Mediterranean flavors that change with the seasons. You can even find local specialties like the famous socca, perfect for a quick bite. Another highlight of Cours Saleya is the Flower Market, which stretches across Place Pierre Gautier. Recognized by the National Culinary Arts Council as one of France’s exceptional markets, it’s open every day from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., except on Mondays. This market is a true explosion of colors, with flowers and plants in every shape and variety.

Libération Market
Less touristy than Cours Saleya, the Libération Market (Nice North) runs from Tuesday to Sunday, 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., stretching from Avenue Malausséna to Place Général de Gaulle. Easily accessible by tram (Libération stop), the market offers a range of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and even impressive fish and seafood stalls. Most of the vendors are local, organic farmers who sell their cheeses, honey, and other small-batch products. This market is a vibrant slice of Nice’s way of life, and on sunny days, the café terraces are always full.

Saint-Roch Market
Finally, head to Nice East. Smaller than the other two markets, the Saint-Roch Market, located on Place Saint-Roch, offers a wide selection of local products next to the beautiful church of the same name. Conveniently accessible by tram, it’s open from Tuesday to Sunday, 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and has about twenty vendors who have been fixtures of the market for years. You’ll find everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to fish, fresh eggs, and regional cheeses—perfect for filling your basket with seasonal goodness. It’s guaranteed to be a lively experience!

Beyond fresh produce and local products, there are also other unique markets in Nice that are worth a visit, such as the Cours Saleya Flea Market held only on Mondays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., or the Antique Book Market at Place du Palais de Justice, every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (winter hours) and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (summer hours).

Located close to the center of Nice, the West End Hotel – a member of 3A Hotels La Collection – is the ideal starting point for exploring Nice and all this amazing destination has to offer!

A unique encounter between art and the hotel industry

For its 10th edition, to be held from 15 November to 1 December 2024, the OVNi (Objectif Vidéo Nice) festival has put together a programme on the theme of “The Great Game”, with two itineraries : one through some of the Côte d’Azur’s most emblematic cultural venues, and the other in a number of Nice hotels, including the West End.

Since its creation in 2015, OVNi has stood out for its innovative concept combining video art and hotels. This international event offers visitors a total immersion in contemporary art, through projections in atypical spaces. The event will be marked by the presence of ambassador Jacques Rougerie, world-renowned visionary architect, and guest of honour Hélène Delprat, multidisciplinary artist.

The West End Hotel welcomes video art

The West End Hotel, a long-standing partner of the festival, is opening its doors to art lovers over the weekend of 29 November to 1 December 2024, as part of the Parcours Hôtels. Located on the Promenade des Anglais, this iconic Nice hotel will be hosting contemporary video works projected in its rooms and public areas. The hotel’s sumptuous setting offers a unique experience, allowing visitors to explore art from a new angle, in an atmosphere that is both intimate and immersive.

Creations by international artists await you, including Ethel Lilienfeld from Belgium, Martin Molina Gola from Mexico, Tõnis Jürgens from Estonia, Emilija Škarnulytė from Lithuania, and Alona Danilova from Ukraine. The visual and sound installations are presented with the support of cultural institutes, foundations and art centres.

Staying at the West End Hotel during OVNi

Taking advantage of this event is also an invitation to stay at the West End, a prestigious venue in the heart of Nice. Whether you’re an art lover or just curious, staying at this emblematic hotel is a unique opportunity to experience total immersion in the world of OVNi.

Meet Benoit Fossiez, Chef of the restaurant Le Siècle

Promenade Des Anglais depuis Le West End

Every month, the West End Hotel**** puts the spotlight on one of its employees through a series of questions designed to help us better understand his job and what motivates him in his daily work. Today, the hotel presents Benoît Fossiez, Chef at Le Siècle restaurant.

Can you introduce yourself?
I’m 44 years old and I’ve been Chef at Le Siècle for 7 months. After travelling a lot and living abroad, I settled in Nice to take over the restaurant’s kitchen as Chef. I supervise a brigade of 10 people. Before that, I worked in Michelin-starred restaurants in Nice and in some of the top restaurants in Thailand. It was there that I discovered Asian spices, which I like to use in my cooking, even though at Le Siècle we’re more into Mediterranean cuisine with a touch of spice!

What do you love most about your job?
What I love most about my job is discovering new flavours and new ways of cooking. Living and working in Thailand gave me a taste for spices. As a result, today I offer Mediterranean cuisine with unique tastes that people don’t know about.

What advice would you give to a new colleague?
One of the first pieces of advice I would give to a new employee is to be passionate. Because it’s a passionate job! Other advice would be to be patient, rigorous and well organised. Organisation is super important and the key to success!

What’s your favourite place at the Hôtel West End?
Even though I spend most of my time in the kitchen, the little terrace is my favourite place. There’s a beautiful view and to clear your head for 5 minutes and take a little break, it’s the ideal place.

What are your best memories of the hotel?
My best memories are without doubt the Opera evenings and the Christmas evenings. These are great times for the cuisine, but there’s a very specific atmosphere.

What advice would you give guests on how to make the most of their stay?
Several things! I’d advise them to try the Châteaubriand piece, which is a real treat! And then to explore the Cours Saleya with its unmissable market, which is a must-see, especially in the morning… the best time of the day.

Discover hikes departing from the West End hotel in Nice

Promenade Des Anglais depuis Le West End

During your stay at the Hôtel West End, set off to discover the hinterland of Nice, where there are numerous trails to delight nature lovers.

There’s no shortage of activities in Nice! The proximity of the mountains is one of the region’s major assets. Here are four not-to-be-missed walks, combining history, breathtaking scenery and immersion in the heart of nature.

Gilette et les gorges de l’Estéron

This 13km hike, lasting 5h30, plunges you into the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional des Préalpes d’Azur. Situated on a rocky spur, Gilette is an ideal starting point for exploring the gorges de l’Estéron and the region’s historic remains. What’s more, you’ll discover the pont médiéval de la Cerise (médiéval Cerise bridge),where scenes from the film “Le Bossu” were filmed in 1997.

Les gorges de la Siagne

Situated on the border between the Alpes-Maritimes and the Var, the gorges de la Siagne offer a 10km walk lasting around 4 hours. This trail takes you through unspoilt, wild countryside. Listed as a Natura 2000 site, this area is a veritable haven of peace. The route is dotted with the remains of mills and paper mills, bearing witness to the use of the river’s power over the centuries.

Crête du Bauroux

For a more aerial hike, the Crête du Bauroux awaits you at an altitude of over 1,000 metres. This 12km trail – lasting 4 hours 40 minutes – is rich in historical and natural discoveries. You’ll come across the picturesque villages of Caille and Séranon, with their Provençal atmosphere and stone houses. The route takes you through a variety of landscapes, with rocky areas, undergrowth and plains, all the way to the summit where you can enjoy a 360° panorama of the Pre-Alps and the surrounding plain.

Baou de Saint-Jeannet

Last but not least, this easy 6km hike, lasting 2hrs 40mins, is ideal for a family outing in spring or autumn. The Baou de Saint-Jeannet, at an altitude of 800 metres, offers one of the most exceptional panoramas in the region, stretching from the massif de l’Esterel (Esterel massif) to the montagnes du Mercantour (Mercantour mountains), with the Mediterranean and even Italy in the distance as a backdrop. Although short, this hike attracts walkers, climbers and even slackliners, thanks to the beauty and tranquillity of the surroundings.

After a day of sport, there’s nothing like returning to the seaside for a moment of relaxation.

Stay at the Hôtel West End

The Hôtel West End, ideally located on the famous Promenade des Anglais, is the perfect base from which to discover both the sea and the mountains. Its privileged location allows you to make the most of the Mediterranean beaches, while offering easy access to the hinterland of Nice, which is rich in hiking trails and accessible by bus for less than €2.

Promenade Des Anglais depuis Le West End

The maritime alps marathon Nice – Cannes will be held in Nice on Sunday 3 November 2024. The West End Hotel is doing everything in its power to offer participants the best possible welcome.

One of the most beautiful courses in the world

The 16th edition of the Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes, linking Nice to Cannes along the legendary Côte d’Azur, is back! Since its creation in 2008, nearly 175,000 runners of more than 70 nationalities have taken to the course between the sea and the palm trees, enhancing its international reputation. Certified by the AIMS and recognised by the French Athletics Federation (FFA), this race was awarded the title of ‘World’s Most Beautiful Tourist Marathon’ in 2018 by Forbes Travel Guide, largely thanks to its magnificent scenery and the impressive size of its field.

This iconic event offers several distances to suit all types of runner: the full marathon (42.195km), two half-marathons of 21.1km each, a 20km relay, as well as formats adapted for disabled athletes. The start is at 8am on the Promenade des Anglais for the elite runners, and at 8.03am for the rest of the field. Disabled runners get an early start at 7.57 am.

The Hôtel West End: top accommodation for marathon runners

The Hôtel West End, located on the Promenade des Anglais, offers the perfect location for participants in the event. In addition to its historic charm and luxury services, the hotel is offering an exclusive package for the occasion, starting at €212 per night for two people, including breakfast. For optimum comfort, breakfast will be served from 5.30am on race day, and late check-out is also available for racers.

Those not registered for the Marathon will be able to enjoy the view of the Mediterranean from their room, while cheering on the athletes. What’s more, the traditional Breakfast Run, open to all and free of charge, will be held the day before the race. This event brings together between 200 and 300 runners for a relaxed final training session on the Promenade des Anglais.

Nice, regarded as a land of sport

Whether you’re taking part in a marathon or just enjoying the spectacle, Nice is a must-visit sporting destination. With its mild climate, breathtaking scenery and festive atmosphere, the city offers a unique setting for sporting competitions. The Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes is a not-to-be-missed event for runners and lovers of sport and the Côte d’Azur alike.

Laura and Sabrina, reservation agents for 3A Hôtels La Collection

Promenade Des Anglais depuis Le West End

Every month, Hotel West End**** puts the spotlight on its employees by asking a few questions to better understand their jobs and what motivates them. Today, the hotel introduces you to Laura and Sabrina, respectively First Reservationist and Reservation Agent with the 3A Hôtels La Collection group.

Can you introduce yourself?

Laura: “I’m 30 years old, I’m the mother of a little boy and I’ve been Première de réservation for almost 7 years. I started my career in the restaurant business, but had to change for personal reasons. So I switched to the hotel business and joined the reservations department of 3A Hôtels La Collection. My job is to optimize customer reservations and ensure that everything is in order and operational before their arrival. My role is to sell the product best suited to the customer’s needs, not just a price.”

Sabrina: “I’m 28, from Italy, and I’m also the mother of a little girl. I arrived in France 10 years ago. Until 2022, I worked mainly in the reception area, and then 2 years ago I switched to reservations, to keep the link with tourism and contact with the public. My role is to make individual reservations for our 3 hotels in Nice, but also for small groups”.

What do you love most about your job?

Laura: “What I like most of all is the fact that customers are happy to come and stay in our establishments. Our aim is to ensure that everything runs smoothly before the customer arrives.”

Sabrina: “What I like is the contact with customers and the fact of working in beautiful hotels. My job is exciting because I also have the challenge of finding the best rates for customers and building up their loyalty”.

What advice would you give to a new employee?

Laura: “First and foremost, it’s important to know your product and, above all, the tools you’ll be working with. It’s important to keep an eye on everything and spend time in the establishment to get to know the place.”

Sabrina: “Enjoy contact with the public and be patient! And, of course, you have to be passionate about the hotel business… otherwise there’s no point in choosing this profession”.

What’s your favorite place at the Hôtel West End?

Laura: “I love the West End Hotel, with its Belle Époque style and location on the Promenade des Anglais. It’s perfect for couples looking for a break. I love the Siècle terrace because you can eat or have a drink while admiring the beautiful view.”

Sabrina: “I love the Belle Époque feel of the West End hotel and its mix of old and new. It’s got a great history! It was the first hotel to be built on the Promenade des Anglais. I really like the reception area, which is very beautiful, with its majestic staircase.”

What are your fondest memories of the hotel?

Laura: “We’re a family! A good atmosphere is the most important thing and the key to everything. We have lots of memories together.”

Sabrina: “There’s a great atmosphere in the team, and the guests are nice too! Every day is different and we create great memories together.”

What advice would you give customers to make the most of their stay?

Laura: “For me, Chateau Hill is a must-see in Nice, because it’s the most beautiful spot! I’d also advise them to take their time. We spend our days running around, so taking time on vacation is important!”

Sabrina: “I invite customers to visit the area around Nice – the train station is not far away – such as Juan les Pins, Cannes, Antibes and even Saint-Tropez. In Nice, it’s good to discover the different types of cuisine, because there’s no shortage of choice”

Festival Cinéroman à Nice

The Cinéroman festival will be held in Nice from 30 September to 5 October 2024. Hôtel West-End is delighted to be partnering the event once again.

The Cinéroman festival, a not-to-be-missed event celebrating novels adapted for the screen, is back for a 6th edition, from 30 September to 5 October 2024, at the Pathé Gare du Sud cinema.

Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière, an exceptional jury

This year, Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière, renowned for their work as screenwriters and screenwriters and directors, are the presidents of the jury. They are joined by a host of other celebrities, including Danièle Thompson, Jérémie Renier, Laetitia Dosch, François Berléand, Aurélie Saada, Enki Bilal and Philippine Leroy Beaulieu. They make up the jury for this 6th edition.

But what exactly is the Cinéroman festival?

The Cinéroman festival highlights the relationship between literature and cinema, focusing on films adapted from literary works. The aim is to celebrate the intersection between the fifth and seventh arts, and to showcase the directors, screenwriters and writers who have successfully transposed novels onto the big screen.

An event not to be missed

The festival offers a rich selection of films in competition. The programme includes The Zone of Interest directed by Jonathan Glazer, and Kensuke’s Kingdom by Neil Boyle and Kirk Hendry. In addition to the films in competition, there will be exclusive previews of films and series such as Leurs enfants après eux (Their Children After Them) directed by Zoran and Ludovic Boukherma.

The West End Hotel, a loyal partner

A member of the 3A Hôtels La Collection group, the West End Hotel is once again a partner of this 6th edition of the festival. The 4-star hotel has been supporting the festival for several years.

Silence, it’s filming! Nice, with its rich cinematic heritage, is not the only famous setting: the Hôtel West End was also used as a film set for the series ‘La Peste’, adapted from the famous novel by Albert Camus and broadcast on France 2.
